What is there to say?
I’m a late bloomer, but I’ve finally managed to read #4 on the BBC’s “The Big Read – Top 200”. That means I have finished the Top 5 of that section of my Booklitzer 200 list.
There isn’t much that I can say about this cult classic. It is cult. It is classic.
One thing I will say though, as a newbie, the movie made a lot more sense after I read the book. Much more. Oh, and I simply couldn’t reconcile the Zaphod Beeblebrox of the movie with the image I had from reading the book.
Much recommended. Now on to The Restaurant at the End of the Universe and the rest of the Hitchhiker’s franchise…
I love the entire series for its hilarious wit. It takes a lot of skill to make me burst out in laughter while reading a book (I usually just smirk), but there were countless times while reading the series. I agree that Zaphod is not as good in the film. Plus, I didn’t like the love story they added, but I guess they had to widen their demographic a little.

I’m going to get the Stephen Fry audio version of this. Whoop whoop.

Clearly I haven’t replied to this in sheer horror that you hadn’t already read it. I’m afraid this series occupies a rather large part of my mental landscape. I tend to update the Shoe Event Horizon theory on a biannual basis for example (actually, that might be a later book. Ummm.)
Plus my entire online life is Douglas Adams’ fault. I absolutely cannot resist the tempation to plug h2g2 (his – originally – attempt to create the Guide) http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/home
and the attempt to save it… http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/home

I did wonder whether I was going to receive a finger wag. ;p
Oh, and plug away. I have read your posts on the problem of h2g2 and am all in favour of trying to save it.
